In fields like fitness and coaching, instructor certification and continuing education aren't optional extras — they're the expected standard, built and reinforced over decades. Anyone stepping into those roles inherits a body of written knowledge: best practices, safety protocols, and a shared professional language developed by the people who came before them.

Marching arts hasn't built that same structure. Instructors have always learned — through mentorship, through years of performing, through trial and error in the rehearsal room — but that knowledge has largely stayed personal, passed down informally rather than written down and shared widely. That's not a failure of any individual instructor. It's simply a gap the activity hasn't closed yet, and closing it is an opportunity, not a correction.

That gap matters more than it might first appear. Instructors are regularly entrusted with the wellbeing of children — their physical safety, their emotional experience, their sense of what a healthy learning environment feels like. That kind of responsibility calls for shared accountability: a common foundation instructors can point to, build from, and be supported by, not just individual good intentions.

Linden was formed at the intersection of that gap and a genuine love of education — to give instructors a written, shared starting point. Not a replacement for the mentorship and experience that already shape this activity, but a complement to it: something instructors can return to, build on, and pass forward, so the knowledge that makes someone a great teacher doesn't have to start over with every new generation.
